A Minnesota prosecutor is seeking the extradition of a federal officer involved in a shooting incident in Minneapolis. The incident, which occurred in January, resulted in injuries to a Venezuelan immigrant.
Christian Castro, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in question, is facing four counts of second-degree assault. This legal action follows the shooting incident that has garnered significant attention.
On August 6, 2026, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty addressed the media regarding the case. Moriarty has formally requested Texas Governor Greg Abbott to authorize the extradition, which she describes as the “final step” for transferring Castro to Minnesota for trial.
Moriarty communicated her request through a letter to Governor Abbott, emphasizing the importance of proceeding with state criminal charges against the federal officer.
