Dallas Cowboys legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy White has thrown his support behind Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the state’s significant U.S. Senate race. White emphasized Paxton’s determination, stating, “Ken Paxton will get in there and get things done. He’s not afraid.” White appreciates Paxton’s straightforwardness and commitment to the people’s interests.
White’s endorsement stems from a personal connection and their collaboration on children’s issues and the opioid crisis. White stated, “I got to know Ken as a person, and I think he is a super person. I like his attitude, the things that he does, the way he does them.”
White highlighted Paxton’s involvement with the National Child Identification Program, helping parents retain their kids’ identifying details. Paxton has supported funding initiatives for this cause, while White acts as a Hall of Fame ambassador. White remarked, “He is a big supporter of the Child ID program, which is something I’m a big supporter of — helping kids.”
White’s advocacy against opioids was fueled by losing his son-in-law to an accidental opioid overdose. In 2024, he joined Paxton and others affected by fentanyl-laced drugs in a public service announcement. White expressed his stance, “This opioid stuff — I lost a son-in-law to opioids, accidental. He’s been right on top of that ever since that happened.”
White drew a contrast between Paxton and his opponent, James Talarico, expressing distrust in Talarico. He said, “I know Ken Paxton. I know he’s going to do what he says he’s going to do.” He characterized Talarico as hesitant, which he contrasted with Paxton’s steadfastness.
White disagreed with Democratic views on transgender participation in girls’ sports and bathroom access. In his view, Paxton sticks with principles, while Talarico seems to shift positions. “I think that’s a sign that we can’t trust him,” White added.
Talarico, running against Paxton, previously opposed blanket restrictions on transgender athletes. However, he stated that he would oppose involvement that affects safety or fairness. Talarico advocated for decisions on a case-by-case basis.
Republican Ken Paxton secured his nomination after overcoming Sen. John Cornyn in a primary runoff. President Donald Trump’s backing played a crucial role, as he endorsed Paxton before the runoff concluded.
The race remains closely contested. A recent Fox News Poll found Talarico leading Paxton slightly, although within the margin of error. White stands firm in supporting both Trump and Paxton, commenting on economic management, “These gas prices, we’re paying a little more for gas right now. But I tell you what, he’s saving the world.”
White supported Trump’s approach to international conflicts such as the war with Iran, believing it necessary for national safety. He asserted, “What President Trump is doing, I think, is the best thing for our country.”
