The Tampa Bay Rays secured their first American League pennant since 2020 before a sellout crowd at Tropicana Field. On Monday, Oct. 19, 40,230 fans witnessed the Rays defeat the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series.
Next, the Rays will face the Milwaukee Brewers in the World Series, starting Friday at American Family Field. This marks the first time these two teams meet in the World Series, ensuring one franchise will achieve its first championship.
Throughout Game 6, the Rays maintained the lead. Starting pitcher Freddy Peralta impressed by allowing just one run over 5.1 innings. The Guardians tried to extend the series with a bullpen approach but quickly fell behind 3-0 by the third inning.
Cleveland narrowed the gap to 3-1 and then 5-3. However, Yandy Diaz hit a pivotal two-run home run in the eighth inning against Hunter Gaddis. This provided crucial insurance runs and earned Diaz a momentous curtain call from the home crowd.

The Rays previously lost the World Series in 2008 to the Philadelphia Phillies and in 2020 to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Of the players from their last World Series appearance, only Yandy Diaz and the injured pitcher Shane McClanahan remain with the team.
Remarkably, despite having the fifth-smallest payroll on Opening Day, the Rays ended the regular season with the American League’s best record. This success granted them home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
