Recent gubernatorial primaries have presented challenges for candidates backed by former President Donald Trump. Mike Lindell’s loss in Minnesota marks the third failed attempt for a Trump-endorsed candidate in a governor’s race this year. Previous losses include Rep. Randy Feenstra in Iowa and Lt. Gov. Burt Jones in Georgia.
In South Carolina, Trump endorsed Alan Wilson and Lt. Gov. Pam Evette for governor, with Wilson eventually winning the primary after the race proceeded to a runoff. Additionally, Trump-backed Sen. Darline Graham is now in a runoff for her Senate seat.
Rep. Andy Ogles’ recent loss in Tennessee illustrates the mixed results of Trump’s endorsements, though the former president maintains influence with over 200 of his preferred candidates winning their primaries this year. Trump’s widespread endorsements extend to most Republican Congress members, many of whom faced little opposition.

In Minnesota, State House Speaker Lisa Demuth defeated Trump-backed candidate Mike Lindell in the Republican primary for governor. She will face Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar in the upcoming general election.
Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan secured a win in Minnesota’s Democratic Senate primary, representing a victory for the party’s progressive wing as she defeated the more moderate Rep. Angie Craig.
In Vermont, economist Amanda Janoo won the Democratic primary for governor and will challenge the incumbent Republican Gov. Phil Scott.
Matt Little emerged victorious in the Democratic primary for Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District seat.
For Wisconsin’s Democratic gubernatorial primary, Francesca Hong and David Crowley are in a close contest with results still pending.
In the Republican Senate primary in Minnesota, Michele Tafoya, a former sports broadcaster, secured the nomination. Her Democratic competitors still contend for their party’s nomination.
