The White House has initiated the reopening of part of Lafayette Square, located across from it, eight months following its closure for renovations by President Donald Trump. On Monday, workers started removing sections of temporary fencing along H Street NW, which had restricted access to the park since January. Despite this move, large portions of the park remained inaccessible as of Monday afternoon.
Administration officials remain focused on plans to construct a permanent fence around the park. This effort is part of the broader security measures being considered for the area.
The gradual reopening marks a significant step towards returning Lafayette Square to public use, although substantial parts are still off-limits.
