Rep. Ilhan Omar Raises Funds Following Federal Raid

Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, recently experienced a substantial increase in her campaign funds. On the day the federal government searched her home in Washington, Omar raised over $1.5 million, according to an analysis by the Washington Post. This figure was part of nearly $1.9 million raised by Omar in the first two weeks of October, as reported in a Federal Election Commission filing.

Omar’s fundraising reached $847,000 on October 12, the day of the federal raid, marking her most significant fundraising day during this election cycle. The following day, she added another $665,000 to her campaign coffers. To date, Omar has raised over $8 million during the two-year campaign cycle.

The federal raid was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations. It is part of an investigation into whether Omar or her father provided false information on immigration forms in the 1990s when they moved to the United States. Omar, who was 12 at the time of her arrival in the U.S., has firmly denied any wrongdoing and labeled the investigation as political intimidation. Her father has since passed away.

To manage legal expenses, Omar has been soliciting donations. In a social media video, she mentioned, “It is going to be a very expensive and challenging time.”
