The Ridge fire, which began near Gorman, has expanded to cover 1,000 acres. This occurred on Friday afternoon, leading to the closure of both directions of the 5 Freeway and resulting in significant traffic congestion through the Grapevine.
This brush fire started around 3 p.m. by the 39000 block of Gorman Post Road. It quickly affected 100 acres of brush in northwestern Los Angeles County. By 6 p.m., the fire had grown significantly, as reported by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Authorities issued an evacuation order around 4:45 p.m. when the fire spread across the 5 Freeway. The order affects areas of Gorman and Hungry Valley to the west of the freeway. Warnings have been issued for areas south and north of the fire, including parts of Kern County.
The National Weather Service reports that winds at the fire site are blowing south-to-southeast at 6 to 10 mph, with gusts reaching up to 15 mph. The temperature is in the lower 90s, with humidity around 18%.
