The United States has strong ties to Judeo-Christian principles. This is a historical fact. Christianity stands on Judaism’s foundation. The New Testament relies on the Old Testament. Jesus Christ was born a Jew and taught using the Hebrew Scriptures. He expressed his intent to fulfill the Jewish laws and prophecies, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew.
Recently, there have been attempts to misconstrue this history, causing concern among religious leaders. Dr. Jordan Peterson posted an insightful comment addressing this issue. He stated: “The 10 Commandments are Jewish. The iconic stories of the Old Testament are Jewish. The Jews developed the principle of subsidiarity, opposing tyranny and slavery. They set the stage for universal literacy. The fate of Israel under Islamist threats mirrors the West’s. The rise of anti-semitism is appalling. Those attacking it for moral reasons are disgraceful. Remember, Christ was a Jew.”
Peterson’s words accurately capture the essence of Judeo-Christian foundations. Immediately after his post, Jack Posobiec from Human Events countered by saying Peterson’s view doesn’t align with Christian beliefs. Another commenter mirrored this sentiment, claiming biblical figures like Abraham and Moses were Christian. This incorrect view disregards Jewish roots and Christian origins.
An online commentator equated this with the 1619 Project’s approach to American history, where slavery is emphasized over principles of liberty from 1776. Similarly, erasing Jewish elements in Scripture to focus solely on Christianity distorts the truth. It’s vital to maintain honesty about religious history and the foundation of faith.
America’s founding principles align with biblical truths. Ideas of equality and unalienable rights stem from everyone being made in God’s image. The concepts of law, dignity, and mercy flow from the Judeo-Christian legacy, which has been preserved by Jewish tradition and fulfilled through Christ. Removing this root leaves Christianity and American ideals unanchored.
This issue impacts more than just academic discussions; it affects how we educate the next generation. Misrepresenting origins weakens society. Addressing this, Project H.O.O.D. in Chicago is creating a Leadership and Economic Opportunity Center. It will focus on job training, education, financial literacy, and teaching the truth from both Testaments of Scripture alongside honest American principles.
We are in a struggle for the nation’s essence. Any form of historical revisionism undermines unity. Peterson rightly identifies the growth of antisemitism as repugnant. Historically, the Black church and Jewish communities have resisted oppression together, and this shared bond continues.
The path to strength and unity lies in upholding truth. America’s principles cater to all citizens who commit to them. This nation rests on a Judeo-Christian foundation worth defending.
