Covid cases are increasing during the summer, and health experts predict another surge this winter. In several months, many states may link pharmacists’ authority to give Covid vaccines to recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
In the spring, efforts to prepare updated Covid vaccines for the fall were progressing well. A committee advising the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initiated the process by selecting the latest virus strains for targeting in the new vaccines. The FDA approved these recommendations and communicated them to vaccine manufacturers.
