Russia Launches Major Missile Strike on Kyiv Ahead of NATO Summit

Explosions shook the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, on Monday. This attack marked the second significant assault on the city within a week as Russia intensified its offensive.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who plans to attend a NATO summit in Turkey, had earlier cautioned about Russia’s intentions for a large-scale attack on Kyiv. Shortly thereafter, a series of loud explosions were reported in the city.

According to the regional military administration, ballistic missiles targeted Kyiv. The city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, advised residents to remain in shelters for safety.

Tymur Tkachenko, in charge of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed that the attack resulted in at least seven fatalities. Over two dozen individuals suffered injuries.

As morning arrived, thick smoke filled the skyline, and emergency services responded to numerous fire outbreaks. Affected areas included an apartment building with inhabitants trapped inside.

The attack follows a prolonged missile and drone strike on Thursday, which resulted in the deaths of 31 individuals and injuries to over 100.

The NATO summit, commencing on Tuesday in Ankara, Turkey, will likely focus on the alliance’s strategies concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
