Rescue teams are actively searching for a woman who went missing after being involved in a vehicle accident in the Riverdale neighborhood of Chicago. The incident occurred overnight when a vehicle lost control and entered the Calumet River, according to Chicago police.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., the vehicle veered off the road in the 13000 block of South Indiana Avenue. It struck a barrier before plunging into the river. There were six adults in the vehicle at the time.
Five of the occupants managed to exit the vehicle and reach safety on land. A male passenger was rescued by the Marine Unit of the Chicago Police Department and transported to UChicago Medicine. He is currently in serious condition.
As of 7 a.m., the woman remains unaccounted for. Rescue operations are ongoing in an effort to locate her. The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is handling the investigation into the incident.
