Authorities in South Carolina are searching for a missing woman last seen leaving a gym in Lexington. Elena Katherine Moore, 39, disappeared after exiting Planet Fitness on Thursday evening. She was seen walking towards a wooded area nearby, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Moore, who works as a personal trainer, has not been seen since leaving the gym located in a suburb west of Columbia. Her disappearance is viewed as highly unusual by the police. Moore last signed into the gym at 6:40 p.m. before heading towards a wooded area behind a Lowe’s Home Improvement store. Concerned parties reported her missing the next day.
Initial searches conducted with drones on Friday yielded no results. A larger-scale search began on Monday, including efforts from multiple local and state agencies. The search involved the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Department of Natural Resources, and other emergency responders.
“The search is aimed at ruling out the location as a possible area where Moore could be,” said Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green.
During the operation, no evidence or signs of Moore’s whereabouts were discovered. She is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. At the time of her last sighting, she wore an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants. There is uncertainty about whether she carried her cellphone.
The police urge anyone with information on Moore’s location to contact local detectives at 803-358-7271 or Midlands Crimestoppers.
