America 250 spokesperson Rosie Rios has revealed items chosen for a time capsule to be buried on Independence Mall in Philadelphia on July 4, 2026. The items include a pocket Constitution signed by Supreme Court Justices, a crystal from the 2026 New Year’s Eve ball drop, and an NFL/America 250 coin. These items aim to preserve America’s story for future generations.
Fox News provided an exclusive look at the time capsule’s contents. This 900-pound, stainless steel, waterproof vessel will hold nearly 200 contributions from across the nation. Rios emphasized the importance of representing all branches of government and all 56 parts of the country, including 50 states, D.C., and five territories, as well as everyday Americans.
The time capsule will be capped with a 1,100-pound lid, bringing its total weight to approximately a ton. It will be buried in Philadelphia’s Independence National Historical Park on July 4 and is intended to be reopened in 2276. Rios noted that Philadelphia is a fitting location, given its status as the birthplace of the United States.
Items in the time capsule aim to capture the nation’s history, culture, and identity. Highlights include the pocket Constitution, a message in a bottle from Coca-Cola, an American flag from the 2026 Rose Parade, and more. Rios mentioned that a capstone and some artifacts will remain on display in Philadelphia as a reminder of the history waiting for future generations.
