Elizabeth Waddell, a 44-year-old American woman from Cary, North Carolina, is missing in Grenada. Last seen at Grand Anse Beach on Wednesday, authorities and her family are urgently seeking assistance to locate her.
The Royal Grenada Police Force issued a missing person alert on Thursday. Waddell was vacationing at the popular tourist spot Grand Anse, known for its stunning white sand and turquoise waters, located in the capital city, St. George.
Local police have reached out to fishermen, boat operators, and residents along the southern coastline for any sightings of Waddell. She is described as having a medium build, approximately 5-foot-5 inches tall, with short blond hair.
A State Department spokesperson confirmed the agency’s awareness of Waddell’s disappearance.
“Liz went missing in the afternoon on Wednesday. I am on my way there now to help search. I expect nothing less than Liz’s safe return — so please send your love, light, thoughts, and prayers our way,”
These were the heartfelt words of Waddell’s husband, Cailen Waddell, as he took to Facebook to request help.
NBC News reached out to the family’s spokesperson. They also urge anyone with pertinent information to contact the South Saint George Police Station.
Waddell, founder of Art of Movement Physical Therapy, disappeared while vacationing with a friend. Amanda Romano-Harmon, Waddell’s long-time friend, informed NBC affiliate WRAL-TV that Waddell left her Airbnb for a swim and failed to return.
During the incident, Waddell’s friend, engaged in an online course at their Airbnb, noticed Waddell’s absence. Concern arose when she discovered Waddell had left her phone and belongings behind. They filed a missing person report upon confirmation of her absence.
Romano-Harmon recounted that Waddell wore her swimsuit when she left their accommodation. The Airbnb had a pool overlooking the bay, where Waddell was last spotted. A towel left on the pier suggests she might have headed for a swim.
Friends describe Waddell as an adventurous woman who enjoys traveling, hiking, and meeting new people.
