Second Lady Usha Vance Welcomes Fourth Child

On Sunday, Second Lady Usha Vance gave birth to her fourth child, according to an announcement from Vance’s office on X. The family’s statement read, “We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”

Usha Vance, 40, is the first woman since the 1870s to give birth while her husband holds the role of vice president. She shares three other children with her husband, Vice President JD Vance. Their children, two boys and one girl, are aged between four and nine.

This year, while promoting his new book, Vance mentioned the unlikelihood of taking parental leave after the arrival of their baby. The couple initially announced the pregnancy in January, expecting the baby in late July.

The vice president, who might run for president in 2028, revealed in March during a White House event in Michigan that he had persuaded his wife to expand their family. “I remember when we decided to run for vice president, I said, ‘Honey, I really want to have a fourth kid.’ And she said, ‘Well, you can become vice president or you can have a fourth baby,'” Vance recounted. “But, ladies and gentlemen, I am persuasive, because I got both.”

Usha Vance confirmed this persuasion in an NBC News interview, stating that though the idea was initially uncertain for her, she eventually embraced it. “After having our daughter, I thought our family was complete,” she said. “As time passed, I felt increasingly excited about the possibility of another child. I knew I’d be happy with either three kids or four, and now here we are.”

This news comes as the couple considers leasing a separate house in Middleburg, Virginia. This residence would be apart from the vice president’s official home at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. The Secret Service plans to enhance security for this rural property.
