Concerns about security measures at the Bite of Seattle festival were highlighted by a content creator shortly before a tragic shooting incident left three dead and four injured. The event, an annual gathering featuring numerous food and retail vendors, experienced the gunfire around 6 p.m. on Sunday. This occurred during the festival’s closing hours.
Seattle Police have initiated an investigation and advised the public to steer clear of the area located just northwest of downtown. Authorities have detained one individual and are actively pursuing another suspect. Assistant Seattle Police Chief Tyrone Davis mentioned that the suspects appeared to have been firing at each other.
“Make it happen. Keep the people safe. You should not be able to just walk up into this festival with all these people, with all these vendors, with no security.”
Prior to the shooting, a TikTok user known as “leebotracks” shared a video expressing concerns over the lack of security at the festival. The creator recorded himself navigating the festival grounds, noting that attendees were entering without following security checks such as pat-downs or bag searches.
In a subsequent video posted late Sunday night, the creator addressed the situation saying, “I tried to let everybody know how security was being handled. Nobody can say I didn’t try to let people know.” He also highlighted facing criticism in the comments of previous videos.
While the specific security measures for the festival remain unclear, past statements from last year’s organizers claimed a “strong record of security” amidst complaints about a vendor break-in.
