Senator Susan Collins from Maine expressed her resolve after one of her constituency offices was vandalized. The incident took place on Monday, with the words ‘Trump Whore’ sprayed on the entrance doors of her office in Biddeford. Both Senator Collins’ office and local authorities confirmed the ongoing investigation into the vandalism.
Collins’ Chief of Staff, Katie Brown, stated the senator’s staff would not be deterred, affirming the office will continue its operations. Maine state Sen. Matt Harrington shared a photograph of the defaced office on social media platforms.
Her opponent in the upcoming election, Democratic contender Troy Jackson, condemned the act of vandalism. Speaking to Fox News Digital, Jackson stated, ‘Such actions have no place in Maine. Intimidation is wrong, and I denounce these acts.’ He emphasized that Collins and her team should carry out their duties without hindrance.
Former state Rep. Austin Theriault, a Republican congressional nominee, highlighted the importance of condemning vandalism, irrespective of political affiliations. He expressed confidence that Collins would speak against such acts if roles were reversed. He also questioned the delay in Jackson’s response, suggesting potential identity issues within the Maine Democrats.
Maine GOP Communications Director Kristina Parker described the act as indicative of the aggressive nature of the radical left. She insisted on a swift legal response and called for political civility.
The Biddeford office’s proximity to a previous incident involving a fatal shooting by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) brought additional attention. The shooting had earlier prompted protests against Senator Collins’s stance on ICE support.
Senator Collins, a moderate Republican, has navigated controversies tied to President Donald Trump, including criticisms related to her support for Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court appointment. Her longstanding tenure and moderate policies have attracted mixed reactions from both Republicans and Democrats during her campaign for re-election.
