Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey acknowledged his concerns on Sunday about the recent controversies involving Graham Platner, the leading Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Maine. During an appearance on ABC’s ‘This Week,’ Booker was questioned about the effects of these scandals on Platner’s campaign after reports surfaced about Platner sending inappropriate messages to at least six women while being married.
ABC host Jonathan Karl inquired if the ongoing controversies might threaten Democratic chances to secure the Senate seat in Maine. Booker confirmed, stating, “Yes, I have concerns. That guy has questions to answer, and that’s what campaigns are for.” He emphasized the importance of Democrats regaining control of the Senate, mentioning, “So much hinges on Democrats taking control of the Senate. This election is crucial because if we fail to secure the necessary votes to manage the House and the Senate, we will keep dealing with an unbridled president.”
Fox News Digital contacted Platner’s campaign for feedback. The campaign admitted to the text exchanges following a Wall Street Journal report. Platner’s wife, Amy Gertner, informed a campaign aide about the messages after Platner’s Senate bid announcement, as the team assessed potential political risks.
“It makes me furious, disappointed, and I consider it disgraceful that a group of media outlets and individuals choose to spread rumors instead of discussing actual issues like healthcare, education, and childcare,” said Gertner, defending her husband in a five-minute video statement.
Platner faces several other controversies, including a tattoo previously resembling a Nazi symbol. His past remarks on Reddit, downplaying sexual assault and making offensive comments on sensitive topics, also drew criticism.
