Senator Cory Booker Criticizes Trump’s Iran Memorandum

Senator Cory Booker expressed strong disapproval of President Donald Trump’s new agreement with Iran. On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Booker labeled the memorandum of understanding as an “abject surrender” and suggested that Trump had become the “biggest loser” on the international stage for ending the conflict with Tehran.

Booker emphasized that Trump did not deserve credit for attempting to conclude a war that Democrats criticized his handling from the beginning. He remarked, “They know they have won, and Donald Trump is probably the biggest loser on the world stage right now.”

During the discussion, NBC’s Garrett Haake brought up concerns by U.S. intelligence officials that Israel might try to undermine the emerging agreement. Booker criticized both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as “failed world leaders” and expressed his eagerness to see them leave the global stage.

The Senator, a Democrat from New Jersey, claimed he voted eight times to end the war and argued that the memorandum benefits Iran while constraining U.S. policy options. “I do not support this deal, which amounts to an abject surrender,” he stated.

Booker also condemned Trump’s negotiation skills, arguing that Iran now benefits from billions in resources. “American resources are helping rebuild Iran while we foot the bill,” he said. Booker asserted that Trump forfeited U.S. leverage instead of achieving his initial goals in the conflict.

He highlighted a need for leadership, adding, “Our Middle East and NATO allies repeatedly tell me, ‘Your president is a danger to the world.'”

The debate intensified over whether Trump’s memorandum effectively concluded the war or unduly favored Tehran. A clip was played showcasing Democratic strategist James Carville, who suggested Trump deserved credit for ending the war. However, Booker dismissed the notion, comparing it to an arsonist being praised for fleeing a fire they started.

Booker also criticized Republicans in Congress, accusing them of enabling Trump’s actions during the conflict and then disapproving of the outcome. “I’m disappointed that congressional Republicans let Trump do as he pleased during the war, only to object now,” Booker expressed.

White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales responded, highlighting what she described as Trump’s accomplishments in reducing Iran’s military capabilities and negotiating a successful, performance-based memorandum. She claimed this agreement advances U.S. interests by reopening the Strait of Hormuz and compelling Iran to abandon nuclear ambitions, thereby fortifying American security.
