The incident took place at the ChristianaCare facility located in the 500 block of West 14th Street. The Wilmington Police Department advised the public to avoid the area as they continue their investigation.
A hospital spokesperson informed Newsweek that the campus is under lockdown and the emergency department is diverting patients. They emphasized cooperation with law enforcement to ensure safety for everyone at the site, including patients, visitors, and staff.
“We are working closely with law enforcement and taking all appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our patients, caregivers, and visitors. This is an active police investigation for a possible active shooter,” stated the hospital to Newsweek.
