An active shooting situation in downtown Midland, Texas, has resulted in at least one death and multiple injuries. Midland Mayor Lori Blong provided details of the incident during a press conference held on Friday.
The mayor reported that there are 11 victims in total. Authorities have set up a perimeter around the area and urged residents to avoid the location. The precise spot where the shooting occurred remains undetermined.
Mayor Blong mentioned that the shooter is currently “contained” but did not release confirmed details about the suspect. The FBI is aware of the situation and has sent agents from its Midland satellite office to the scene, as a source from the bureau informed Fox News Digital.
The incident originated in southeast Midland, then moved across the southern part of the city. Local police received the first dispatch call at 8:03 a.m. local time.
Midland Memorial Hospital has admitted nine victims from the shooting. Among them, four are undergoing surgery, while five are in stable condition. The hospital’s main campus was under lockdown for nearly two hours due to the incident, with its emergency department still locked down.
