Oliver Tree, a well-known singer, returned to California after a tragic helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro. The crash, which occurred on June 14, involved two helicopters and resulted in the deaths of all six passengers. Tree’s body was identified and brought back to his home state. His social media accounts confirmed his return, stating, “Oliver is now back in California where he can finally rest.”
Alongside Tree, the victims included Gaspar Prim Díaz, a famous Argentine YouTuber known as Gaspi, another Argentine Lucas Vignale, and Brazilians Lucas Brito, Charles Marsillac, and Alexandre Souza. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision and are considering the possibility of human error.
Tree, aged 32, was on a world tour, with previous performances in South America. He had a concert scheduled for June 6 in São Paulo. His unique style and positive messages contributed to his popularity. In a recent social media post, his family and friends expressed gratitude for the support they received, which has been helping them through this difficult time. “The constant love, support and positivity is helping the family, friends and collaborators make it through these extremely difficult times,” the post declared.
Oliver Tree, whose real name was Oliver Tree Nickell, hailed from Santa Cruz. His father, Jesse Nickell, learnt of his son’s passing through a producer working with Tree in Brazil. His father stated, “Peace be with Oliver.” Tree was known for his distinctive fashion, which included a mullet haircut and a thin mustache, and a positive outlook as seen in his Instagram motto, “No matter how strange you think you look, no matter how ugly you feel, you are beautiful.”
Beyond his music chart successes, Tree impacted many through collaborations in pop and electronic dance music. Notable tracks include “Life Goes On,” peaking at number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022, and “Miss You” with Robin Schulz, reaching number 84. After the crash, tributes to Tree emerged from various sources. His influence was widespread.
In a message on social media, plans for an endowment creating a grant were announced, titled “Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses.” The initiative aims to fulfill Tree’s final wish of spreading joy, love, and art. He spoke about the grant in an April interview on the “Zack Sang Show.” Tree mentioned that his work might be more appreciated posthumously, saying, “That’s when people appreciate you, when you’re not there anymore.” His Instagram message offered assurance of his enduring influence, “Your legacy will live on forever.”
