Tkachuk Brothers Reunited in Blockbuster Trade to Florida

Matthew and Brady Tkachuk will be playing together in Florida after a significant trade between the Panthers and Ottawa Senators. This agreement involves Florida sending four draft picks to Ottawa for Brady Tkachuk, making the Panthers’ roster even stronger without losing any of their top seven scorers.

The draft picks traded include the No. 9 pick in this year’s draft, Tampa Bay’s first-round pick (acquired in an earlier trade with Seattle), the Panthers’ second-round pick in 2027, and their top-10-protected first-round pick in 2029. These moves allow the Panthers to enhance their forward lineup with an elite player like Brady Tkachuk.

“Brady is a dynamic competitor and one of the most physical and relentless forwards in the league,” remarked Panthers hockey operations president and general manager Bill Zito. “A proven leader, and exactly the type of player we want in our locker room, he strives to make everyone around him better both on and off the ice. We’re thrilled to welcome Brady to South Florida as we continue our pursuit of championship hockey.”

Brady Tkachuk spent his eight-year NHL career in Ottawa before joining his brother in Florida. Matthew Tkachuk has been with the Panthers for the last four seasons, driving their success with two Stanley Cup wins and reaching the Final three times.

The trade was initially reported by The Athletic. Brady Tkachuk has two seasons remaining on his seven-year, $57.56 million contract signed in October 2021, when he also became Ottawa’s captain. Discussions about trade rumors were previously a contentious topic for him, especially after Ottawa’s playoff exit.

“This was not a decision we took lightly, but ultimately we did what we felt was best for the long-term future of our hockey club,” stated Senators general manager Steve Staios. “We now possess cap space and draft capital and will be actively working to improve our roster.”

The transaction aligns with the brothers’ history of playing together at reputable events like the 4 Nations Face-Off in 2025 and the recent Milan Cortina Olympics where they won a gold medal for the USA. Brady’s ties to Florida extend through family connections as the Tkachuk family owns a home there and have attended Panthers’ games regularly.

Brady was the captain of the Senators for five years and led in many categories, including goals (213), points (463), and hits (1,921). He was a key player for the Senators, acquired with the No. 4 pick in the 2018 draft. His incredible performance metrics will now benefit the Panthers.

Adding Brady Tkachuk strengthens Florida’s roster alongside other key players like Aleksander Barkov and Aaron Ekblad. Brady sees this trade as an opportunity to possibly win the Stanley Cup in the future, joining a team with a history of success and strong potential.
