Spurs Force Game 7 Against Thunder in NBA Western Conference Finals

The San Antonio Spurs have set the stage for a crucial Game 7 in the Western Conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. On Thursday, May 28, the Spurs secured a decisive win with a 118-91 victory at home.

The Thunder were exceptionally strong earlier in the postseason, sweeping their first two series. However, they faced challenges against the Spurs, a team that outperformed them in four of five regular-season meetings. This included a notable 117-102 victory on Christmas Day.

Victor Wembanyama played a significant role in the Spurs’ triumph, achieving a double-double with 28 points and 10 rebounds during Game 6. He shot 10-for-21 from the field and made 4-of-9 attempts from the 3-point line in 28 minutes on the court.

We played together and passed the ball. We trusted the game plan as always. – Victor Wembanyama

The Spurs dominated the third quarter with a 32-13 run and a remarkable 20-0 scoring streak. Wembanyama also contributed significantly to the defense with three blocks.

Stephon Castle effectively defended against Thunder’s star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the two-time reigning MVP. Gilgeous-Alexander struggled throughout the game, managing only 15 points and missing all five 3-point attempts in 28 minutes.

A lot of the shots I’m shooting I’ve taken plenty of times before and felt good. They’re just not going in. It’s too late in the season to abandon my shooting style now. – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

The Thunder will have home-court advantage for Game 7. Gilgeous-Alexander emphasized that determination is key to overcoming the Spurs.

We are a motivated group and accept the challenge ahead. Anything can happen in a Game 7. It’s win or go home. Playing in your building is nice but it doesn’t really mean anything. You have to be the better basketball team. – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
