At least 19 people suffered injuries during a stampede early Sunday morning in Atlantic Beach, South Carolina. Emergency crews from Horry County Fire Rescue arrived at a stage area near South Ocean Boulevard around 1:05 a.m., assisted by local law enforcement.
While officials have not officially named the event involved, the Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival occurred in the area during Memorial Day weekend, as noted by the Town of Atlantic Beach.
Horry County Fire Rescue dispatched teams to address the reported stampede near South Ocean Boulevard. Three individuals required hospital transport for medical treatment, while others reportedly sought care on their own. All injuries are non-life-threatening, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.
The cause of the stampede remains undisclosed. The Black Pearl Cultural Heritage and Bike Festival annually attracts up to 40,000 attendees to Atlantic Beach each Memorial Day weekend, according to information from the Town of Atlantic Beach.
