The U.S. State Department announced on Monday that it revoked more than 175,000 visas during President Donald Trump’s administration. The announcement comes less than two years after Trump began his second term.
According to the State Department, these visas were revoked from foreign nationals who violated visa terms, committed crimes, called for violence against U.S. citizens, defrauded Americans, abused the immigration system, or endangered national security.
Reasons for Visa Revocation
Under President Trump, the United States Department of State has revoked more than 175,000 visas from foreign nationals due to various violations.
The majority of these revocations followed law enforcement encounters for a wide range of criminal activities, including assault, driving under the influence, theft, and drug-related offenses. Other causes included reckless driving, sexual assault, child abuse, fraud, and embezzlement.
Notable Incidents
The department provided examples of individuals involved in severe crimes. These included a foreign national charged with felony rape and sexual battery, including the assault of a mentally disabled victim, and another charged with felony kidnapping, human trafficking, and the sexual exploitation of a minor.
Birth Tourism and Visa Revocations
Birth tourism presented another issue. A U.S. embassy in North Africa revoked over 100 visas for ‘birth tourist’ parents who sought to give birth in the U.S. for citizenship purposes for their children.
Continued Vigilance
Under President Trump and Secretary Rubio’s leadership, the State Department remains committed to identifying, investigating, and revoking visas of foreign nationals who pose threats to American safety. A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right. The Department will continue using every tool available to protect communities from those who abuse it,
the department declared.
This effort underscores the administration’s commitment to national security and immigration law enforcement.
