Authorities arrested fifteen individuals and impounded seven vehicles following an alleged street takeover that involved reckless driving, burnouts, and donuts on a Long Island road early Saturday. The Suffolk County Police Department reported that its Street Takeover Task Force detected the planned gathering through intelligence and social media monitoring before Friday night, August 14.
Investigators discovered that the group intended to conduct a takeover in Suffolk County, which spans approximately 1,000 square miles on the eastern two-thirds of Long Island. The police followed the group’s movements between several locations through the night.

Officers first disrupted gatherings near Commack Road and Sunrise Highway in Islip, followed by another near Route 112 and Main Street in Patchogue. The police intercepted the crowd around 12:50 a.m. on Saturday near Woodside Avenue and Sawgrass Drive in Medford. The roadway was effectively shut down by numerous vehicles engaging in reckless driving and performing stunts, according to authorities.
Members of the Street Takeover Task Force arrived at the scene, resulting in 15 arrests, the impounding of seven vehicles, and the issuance of multiple traffic tickets. The individuals arrested were from various communities across Long Island and New York City. Fourteen of the 15 suspects faced charges related to participating in and spectating an unlawful speed contest. This operation followed a previous major street takeover in Suffolk County.
