President Donald Trump announced that Taiwan plans to purchase 30 percent of gas from the Alaska pipeline over the next 20 years. This announcement was made during a campaign rally in Wasilla, Alaska. Taiwan’s investment is worth $4.4 billion and adds to the $50 billion already committed by South Korea to the project.
Trump acknowledged Alaska’s Senator Dan Sullivan for his role in facilitating the deal. The Senator is currently facing a competitive election bid. Trump expressed gratitude, saying, “I have to say that Dan Sullivan helped me get this done. Thank you, Dan.”
Earlier in the month, Trump had announced that South Korea would invest up to $200 billion in U.S. energy infrastructure. This includes supporting a natural gas pipeline in Alaska and funding a natural gas plant in Texas, alongside eight new nuclear power plants in the U.S. South Korean officials, however, disputed some details of this announcement.
