Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero celebrated the team’s victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. The game took place in St. Petersburg, Florida, on October 19, 2026.
Yandy Díaz and Junior Caminero each hit a two-run home run. Freddy Peralta pitched 5 1/3 innings, leading the Rays to a 7-3 win. This victory secured them their third American League pennant in 29 seasons as a major league franchise.
The Rays will face the National League champion Milwaukee Brewers in a World Series matchup. It is notable for being the first time since 1980 that both teams are seeking their first World Series title. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday night in Milwaukee.
“We got one more bite!” Rays manager Kevin Cash exclaimed as the celebration began in the clubhouse. Díaz, who had predicted a Game 6 win, gave the Rays a commanding four-run lead with a 416-foot homer in the eighth inning.
“Yandy had a claim to back and he did his part,” said Rays President of Baseball Operations Erik Neander. “That was unbelievable.”
Díaz’s home run helped secure Tampa Bay’s first World Series appearance since 2020, when they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. “I’m happy he backed it up,” Cash said. “When Yandy plays well, our offense thrives.”
The loss keeps Cleveland’s World Series drought going, extending it to 78 years. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt expressed pride in his team, acknowledging their effort and resilience despite the loss.
Celebrating the 18th anniversary of their first AL pennant in 2008, the Rays took a 2-0 lead in the second inning due to Richie Palacios’ two-run double. They secured the win with closer Bryan Baker handling the mound duties.
Freddy Peralta, newly awarded the ALCS MVP, allowed only one run and five hits. He secured his second win of the series, having played crucial roles in prior games.
A sellout crowd of 40,230 fans at Tropicana Field cheered throughout the night. The stadium required significant renovations after Hurricane Milton, forcing the Rays to play home games in Tampa the previous year.
Junior Caminero contributed with his first career postseason homer in the seventh inning, extending the lead to 5-1. His joy was evident as he celebrated with fans and mimicked former Rays player Randy Arozarena’s signature pose.
The Guardians loaded the bases in the eighth inning with two outs but could not capitalize. Pitcher Kevin Kelly struck out Brayan Rocchio, ending their threat.
Caminero started the second inning with a single off the opener Shawn Armstrong and his performance eventually led to a larger lead, solidifying their position for the win.
