Tennessee’s athletic department is extending its ‘Happy Hour’ promotion for the 2026 football season after a notable success during the recent game against Texas. President Donald Trump’s attendance at the event heightened security, prompting the school to open stadium gates an hour earlier than usual to manage the anticipated crowd.
With the game starting at 12 p.m. ET, the campus anticipated increased traffic early in the morning. To encourage fans to enter the stadium earlier, Tennessee cut concessions and alcohol prices by 50% from 9-10 a.m. ET. This move successfully attracted fans, resulting in one of the largest crowds seen two hours before kickoff.
Throughout the game, over 95,000 units of alcohol were sold, amounting to $1.3 million in revenue for the university. The first alcoholic purchase was made promptly at 9:02 a.m. ET, demonstrating fans’ eagerness to enjoy the early discounted offerings.
Following the event’s success, Tennessee’s athletic director, Danny White, announced via social media the continuation of this ‘Happy Hour’ promotion for the rest of the season. Gates will open three hours ahead of kickoff, maintaining half-priced concessions for the first hour. White emphasized appreciation for fans’ support: “Inspired by Vol Nation’s incredible response to unusual pregame circumstances last week, Happy Hour at Neyland Stadium will be in effect for the remainder of the season! Gates will open three hours early, with half-priced concessions available for the first hour.”
This Saturday, Tennessee will host Auburn with gates opening at 12:30 p.m. ET for a 3:30 p.m. ET start on ESPN. The school aims to replicate the recent success throughout the remainder of the season.
