FOX Sports analyst Terry Bradshaw shares a personal battle, aiming to reach men struggling with depression through his book, Looking for Terry: A Memoir. It’s a departure from football themes, focusing on mental health.
Bradshaw, known for his jovial persona and NFL success, acknowledges his struggles with depression, which he describes as a recurring “sickening feeling.” He insists the condition doesn’t change his character.
“I’ve kept this private often,” the Pittsburgh Steelers legend reveals, emphasizing the book’s purpose: Encourage men to express emotional challenges openly. Women tend more to seek help, while men might resort to substance use.
One significant bout with depression struck during his Super Bowl broadcaster role in Miami, 1999, leading to immobility. Stress, fatigue, or family issues often trigger these episodes.
Terry credits his wife, Tammy, for support. She refers to his depression as “Roy,” providing humor and relief. “Just talking about Roy is the greatest gift,” Bradshaw comments.
Readers of the memoir are promised insights into Bradshaw’s life beyond fame, showcasing resilience without seeking sympathy.
