Texas Attorney General Targets Latino Groups Over ‘Election Integrity’

Cesar Espinosa expressed feeling overwhelmed in 2024 when he faced a lawsuit to dissolve his immigrant rights group due to its criticism of Texas immigration policies. This action was part of a broader campaign by the Texas attorney general against Democratic Hispanic groups.

Ken Paxton, serving as the attorney general, has focused on alleged corruption in elections involving Democratic and Latino-led groups. His efforts have resulted in disrupted organizations, shocked volunteers, and several indictments. The conflict intensified when Paxton secured the Republican nomination for the Senate, putting his own political future and Senate control in the balance.

Paxton escalated his approach in 2024 by leveraging a new voting law and corporate statutes to target Latino groups.
