Texas Father Speaks Out After Son Stabbed at School Meet

A Texas father is speaking out after his 17-year-old son was fatally stabbed during a high school track meet. Jeff Metcalf recounts how his life is deeply affected following the death of his son, Austin Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco.

The incident allegedly involved 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, a student from another school. A dispute over seating is believed to have escalated before the start of a delayed competition.

“My son is gone, and he’ll never come home again,” said Jeff Metcalf on “America Reports.” He described Austin as “the light of my life.”

Austin died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter, who tried unsuccessfully to save him. Jeff Metcalf shared, “They were so tight. They had the best bond. They were best friends.” He expressed a need to focus on Hunter’s well-being amid the family’s grief.

The Metcalf family advises against speculating on racial or political motives related to the incident. Jeff Metcalf clarified on “America Reports” that the event is not a matter of race or politics.

“This is a human being thing. This person made a bad choice and affected both his family and my family forever,” he stated.

Austin was known as an honor student and a talented athlete with plans to play college football. He maintained a 3.97 GPA and participated in multiple football camps.

A vigil was held on Wednesday night attended by hundreds at their local church, which has become a source of support for the family. Jeff Metcalf spoke of his reliance on faith during this time, saying, “I rely heavily on my faith to get me through this.”

Despite his grief, Jeff has chosen forgiveness. “People ask me, how can you forgive this other person? I forgive the other person because the forgiveness is not for him. The forgiveness is for me so I can have peace,” he shared.

The weekend prior, Jeff spent time hunting with his sons. He shared their final conversation, recalling his son’s offer to help with chores. “He said, ‘Dad, I’m going to come over this weekend, help mow your grass because I know your arm’s hurting.’ And I said, ‘OK.’ He said, ‘I love you, Dad.’ And I said, ‘I love you too, son.’” These were the last words exchanged.

The suspect from Frisco Centennial High School has been arrested and charged with murder.
