Chad Eberle, a reserve Texas law enforcement officer and Army veteran, faces serious charges in Mexico. He has been accused of killing three people and injuring his former partner in a shooting in Saltillo. Eberle, 35, was detained at a border crossing when he allegedly tried to exit Mexico with his three-year-old son.
What Eberle Is Accused Of
The incident occurred at a residence in Saltillo, the capital of Coahuila state. Eberle reportedly went there to gain custody of his son. An argument ensued, during which he allegedly fired shots, leaving three people dead and his son’s mother critically injured.
The newspaper La Razon de Mexico named the deceased as Ana Laura de León Morín, 44, Laura Jaquelín Morín de León, 22, and Emanuel Montero Gómez, 44. Eberle’s former partner, the mother of his child, is 26 and sustained severe injuries in the shooting.
Authorities issued a warrant for Eberle, referred to as Chad N, on suspected femicide and aggravated homicide counts. The Coahuila Attorney General’s Office posted about the warrant on social media prior to his arrest.
After the shooting, Eberle reportedly fled in a gray Chevrolet Silverado, taking his son with him. The Coahuila Attorney General’s office and U.S. Consulate were contacted for comments.
Arrest Details
Authorities tracked Eberle as he moved toward the U.S.-Mexico border. A social media update confirmed his custody. He was arrested at International Bridge II in Piedras Negras, Mexico, on August 4. This bridge links to Eagle Pass, Texas. Eberle was apprehended before he could cross into the United States.
He was then sent to Saltillo Men’s Penitentiary, arriving at 9:59 p.m. on Wednesday, where he awaits the ongoing legal proceedings. PRONNIF, a child protection agency in Mexico, has placed the boy under its care.
According to Coahuila Attorney General Federico Fernández, Chad N was turned over to judicial authorities once the arrest warrant was executed. Mexican officials are in communication with the U.S. Consulate.
Background of Chad Eberle
Eberle has extensive experience in Texas law enforcement. He earned a Texas peace officer license in January 2017. He advanced through basic, intermediate, and advanced certifications as per Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) records, which also indicate military service.
His employment history includes various departments in Texas, like the Northside Independent School District Police Department and Bexar County Constable’s Office Precinct 2. He served the Northside ISD from 2017 to 2019 before joining the Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office as a deputy constable for about a year.
Santa Anna Police Department hired Eberle in November 2025. He held a position as an unpaid reserve officer, typically active one weekend a month, says Police Chief Ryan Tucker. During the alleged crimes, he was on a personal leave, according to San Antonio Express News.
The City of Santa Anna released a statement via Coleman Today, acknowledging the incident. It highlighted that Eberle was on a personal leave until December and confirmed ongoing contact with the US Consulate in Mexico and TCOLE.
