Director Michael Gunn of ‘The Brink of War’ emphasizes the importance of dialogue over conflict. Actor Jeff Daniels portrays President Reagan in ‘The Brink of War,’ which focuses on the 1986 Reykjavik summit. Jared Harris takes on the role of Gorbachev. Although no final agreement emerged from the summit, it paved the way for further meetings and treaties like the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.
‘For the first time on the highest level, we and the Soviets came close to an agreement on real reductions of both strategic and intermediate-range weapons,’ Reagan remarked after the meeting. He noted that radical arms reduction, once deemed impossible, was now a feasible goal for both sides.
Director Gunn believes the discussions between Reagan and Gorbachev offer valuable lessons for resolving modern conflicts. He asserts that ongoing dialogue, strength, and seeking peace with genuine partners can lead to a safer world.
‘The Brink of War’ will premiere in theaters on August 14.
