Far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker faced criticism after downplaying Hamas’ anti-women and anti-LGBTQ positions during a Sunday interview with CNN. Piker, an emerging figure within the Democratic Party, featured prominently in ‘The Left Insurgency,’ part of the documentary series ‘The Whole Story With Anderson Cooper.’ He discussed several of his contentious remarks with reporter Donie O’Sullivan.
Criticism focused on a bipartisan House resolution from April condemning Piker’s rhetoric perceived as supportive of the terror organization. Piker remarked, ‘I wouldn’t say I express support for all of Hamas’s actions.’ He acknowledged the Palestinian right to resist, while noting war crimes committed by groups like Hamas. ‘At the end of the day, Palestinians do have a right to resist militarily,’ Piker stated.

The House resolution highlighted Piker’s past claims that Hamas was ‘a thousand times better than the fascist settler colonial apartheid state’ of Israel. He reiterated these views on ‘Pod Save America.’
O’Sullivan challenged Piker, noting potential support for Hamas implies backing human rights abuses. Piker responded, ‘It’s not an endorsement of their domestic policies.’ He argued that Palestinian views prioritize the Israeli occupation as their main concern.
Hasan Piker stated, ‘Palestinians… will always say that Israel… is the greatest problem facing them.’
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) condemned Piker’s remarks. An ADL spokesperson noted, ‘Hasan Piker repeatedly expressed support for a designated terrorist organization.’ The silence from Democratic officials who align with him was also criticized.
The American Jewish Committee (AJC) expressed concern, framing Piker’s comments as ‘a line that must not be crossed.’ AJC emphasized leaders’ responsibility in elevating voices and promoting democracy.
Piker’s influence within the Democratic Party prompted tensions. Some Democrats, like strategist James Carville, suggested they might leave the party if Piker’s influence persists. Carville emphasized a clear division, stating that Hasan Piker and himself cannot coexist within the same political party.
