Thomas Rhett Discusses Balance Between Fame and Family Life

Thomas Rhett recently shared insights into his personal life, highlighting the challenges that fame presents in maintaining a simple family life. He noted that his wife, Lauren Akins, initially doubted the likelihood of him achieving stardom due to its rarity. Despite recognizing his talent, she valued simplicity, a theme that runs through her life. Growing up in a rural setting, Lauren would stargaze with her father at night, an experience she cherished.

Rhett and Akins have known each other since first grade, and they briefly dated in high school. They reconnected after her college graduation and married at the age of 22. Rhett acknowledges the inevitable impact of fame, citing benefits like cutting lines, which he consciously avoids to maintain normalcy. He credits his wife with a preference for a simple lifestyle, a wish he shares but admits took time to fully appreciate.

By 2017-2019, Rhett’s career began to peak. He claims he avoided letting success inflate his ego but recognized that he was adapting to it in ways that were not always positive. Performing for thousands delivers a unique thrill, making ordinary moments less stimulating by comparison.

Maintaining simplicity has forced Rhett to embrace quieter moments. Married since 2012, he finds it surreal when fans are emotionally moved by his music. Despite fame, his children—Willa, Ada, Lennon, Lillie, and Brave—see him simply as dad.

Balancing his career with family responsibilities can be strenuous, especially when his concerts run late yet morning school duties beckon. Rhett believes in continuing to date his wife, an effort complicated but necessary once having children. He and Lauren recently spent time alone in London before a group vacation, emphasizing the importance of nurturing their relationship to remain strong as a couple.

Reflecting on early fame, Rhett admitted feeling torn between public expectations and personal life, saying it nearly jeopardized his marriage. Although his career offered plenty of affirmation, he struggled privately and recognized that his approach to marriage needed improvement. By 2020, Rhett had made significant strides in understanding himself without the trappings of fame, attributing much of his groundedness to his wife.
