Time moves quickly. It is already Thursday, and I have one more relief appearance in this Screencaps bullpen assignment. This filling-in task for Joe is always an experience.
Let’s talk about Lexie Hull. Today, inspired by her leadership, I own my role in the Yankees’ extra-inning loss last night in Chicago. On Wednesday, I included a metric noting the Yankees had won 11 of their last 15 games. Bringing up a statistic like a mid-game no-hitter was a mistake. The Yankees blew a 4-0 lead over the White Sox. A one-run lead vanished in the 11th inning after a throwing error, leading to Chicago’s 6-5 win. That was on me.

Marketing, numbers, and winning are what matter. Hull exemplifies all three with her commanding mid-season performance. Leadership doesn’t require bestowing undue attention on a team playing well, unlike my earlier error.
Hull and the Fever have notched four consecutive victories. If her current form holds, expect her to continue filling up the stat sheet as the season progresses.
Now for an unexpected twist in the day—Fresno, California. Police responded to reports from the Grifols Biomat USA Plasma Center about noises in the attic. A patient heard sounds from a wall, even spotting eyes peering out. Officers discovered a man embedded in the wall. Attempts to coax him out led to metal objects being hurled by him. Pepper balls eventually facilitated his naked exit, but not before significant water damage and an evacuation.
A shift from plasma centers to dining—the unexpected closure of Cracker Barrel in Alpharetta / Milton GA caught long-time patrons off guard, including Dennis. After 20 years, the closure was personal. Sudden closures leave noticeable voids, often heralded by declining attendance and quality.
On the culinary front, Jim T from San Diego braved extreme heat to grill. It’s the determined who endure heat waves to barbecue. Yes, it is uncomfortable, but the grilled results are the reward.
