Tiger Woods to Revitalize Tam O’Shanter Country Club

Tiger Woods and his design team are embarking on a new project to rejuvenate the Tam O’Shanter Country Club on Long Island. This golf course, which has been closed since 2021, is approximately ten miles from Bethpage, where Woods secured his 2002 U.S. Open victory.

The golf club had faced controversies in the early 2010s. There were reports of inappropriate activities involving club members. The property changed hands in 2019 for a planned housing development, but plans were halted following an arsenic discovery. This led to the club’s closure two years later.

Woods expressed enthusiasm about the redesign project. “Creating a new golf experience on Long Island’s Gold Coast, an area with a rich history, is an exciting opportunity for our team,” Woods stated. He fondly recalls competing in the region, notably at Bethpage, and looks forward to adding to the area’s golf architecture legacy.

Brookville Mayor Dan Serota praised the collaboration with Woods and TGR Design. He highlighted the unique chance to blend Long Island’s golf tradition with Woods’ distinguished skills and attention to detail.

Woods’ TGR Design is collaborating with The Armchair Collective, a private company that acquired the land in September. The development will feature new practice facilities, a clubhouse, and a golf performance center.

Although currently not active on the golf course, Woods has not played since the 2024 Open Championship. An arrest in March affected his intentions to participate in April’s Masters, leading to his absence in the 2026 season. Woods might make his return at the Hero World Challenge next month, which he is set to host.
