Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, has a message for NFL players who prefer to stay on the sidelines during preseason games: Get in the game. Brady, known for his commitment and success, recently addressed this issue after a fan shared a clip from a 2010 New England Patriots preseason game.
In the video, Brady played deep into a game against the then-St. Louis Rams, showcasing his skills with 18 completions of 22 attempts, totaling 273 yards, and achieving three touchdowns without interceptions. He earned a perfect 158.0 passer rating. Despite already having three Super Bowl rings and two MVP awards, Brady showed up and delivered a 65-yard touchdown to Randy Moss.
Brady reposted the clip to his Instagram Story, emphasizing his view on the matter. “Preseason… Regular season… I never wanted to be taken off the field. Practice makes perfect,” he remarked. He criticized the trend of players seeking easier paths, referring to their reluctance to participate in preseason games.
There is a valid argument for protecting key players from preseason injury risks, especially with the current 17 regular-season games. Coaches aim to safeguard valuable players’ health in the demanding season. However, Brady remains unmoved by these concerns. He believes, “When you’re a football player, and it’s football season, your job is to play football.”
While some might view Brady’s opinion as a typical “back-in-my-day” stance from a retired player, it is backed by his career achievements. His dedication on the field led to seven Super Bowl titles, a testament to his philosophy and work ethic.
Brady’s views on preseason participation reflect his belief in continual practice and effort, reinforcing why he is regarded as one of the greatest in the sport.
