Pro wrestling legend Tommy Dreamer addressed fans ahead of his upcoming match with Josh Shernoff at Awesome Championship Wrestling (ACW). They will face off in a lumberjack match, with the tag teams The Now and Sent 2 Slaughter surrounding the ring. Their longstanding rivalry adds tension to the bout.
Dreamer and Shernoff have a history. Shernoff pinned Dreamer during a six-man tag team match at the Poughkeepsie Rumble in January. Before the chaotic steel cage match between The Now and Sent 2 Slaughter at Reckoning in May, Shernoff had challenged Dreamer to a match at ACW Indypendence Day, scheduled for Saturday.
Dreamer commented on Shernoff’s antics saying, “People try to make a name in this industry.” He noted Shernoff’s wrestling background and admitted to underestimating him, leading to an embarrassing defeat. Dreamer has missed recent ACW shows, with Shernoff capitalizing on his absence.
Dreamer warned that the upcoming match might display a level of violence unfamiliar to some fans. “I apologize to those who are squeamish or unused to old school professional wrestling,” he remarked, referencing his famous “innovator of violence” style.
“Now, there’s no more running,” Dreamer said. “I’m going to do what made me famous in that building to him.”
The rivalry’s intensity is heightened by past altercations. In a notable incident, Shawn Donovan and Danny Maff attacked Vik Dalishus inside a steel cage while Hale Collins was restrained outside. Dalishus’ wife intervened, and Dalishus was hospitalized afterward.
Dreamer reflected on these events, acknowledging the impact on the families of wrestlers. “Vic got hurt in front of his wife and children,” Dreamer recounted. He spoke about the responsibility wrestlers have beyond the ring, remembering conversations with his daughters who witnessed his own injuries in past matches.
Looking forward to the upcoming match, Dreamer shared his excitement. “I’ve been wrestling 37 years and it’s an honor to step in the ring,” Dreamer expressed. He fondly recalled past performances at the MJN Center, highlighting memorable moments, including his matches and interactions with wrestling legends.
ACW’s Indypendence Day event, featuring Dreamer’s match against Shernoff, is scheduled for Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. ET. Dreamer expressed enthusiasm for wrestling’s return to the Mid-Hudson area, crediting The Now and ACW for revitalizing the local wrestling scene with accessible, entertaining shows.
