On July 4th, President Trump delivered a speech from the National Mall. His address mixed American historical themes with familiar political rhetoric. As the nation marked its 250th anniversary, his speech resembled a campaign rally.
During his appearance just before midnight, Trump combined stories of American history with calls to action. He voiced concerns over the Democratic Party, mentioning “communism” and urging Congress to tighten voting regulations ahead of the midterm elections.
Trump emphasized American values, stating, “Unlike so many others in the world, in this country we have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, equal justice under the law.” However, he alluded to his own legal challenges without elaboration.
The celebration mirrored typical Trump rallies. The president proudly referred to himself as “the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime.” His speech included familiar points and themes.
Musical performances featured tenor Christopher Macchio with “God Bless America,” followed by Lee Greenwood singing “God Bless the USA.” Many other entertainers declined to participate in the event, distancing themselves from the political environment.
