Trump Visits Alaska to Support Sullivan and Wilson Amid Election Challenges

President Donald Trump made a visit to Alaska to support Republican Senator Dan Sullivan’s reelection and backed Bernadette Wilson in the gubernatorial race. Trump’s visit is part of efforts to help Republicans retain control of Congress.

Trump endorsed Wilson amidst a crowded field. Wilson emerged as the top Republican in the August primary. She is up against fellow Republicans Treg Taylor and Dave Bronson, as well as Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins. Trump urged the other Republicans to step aside in favor of Wilson.

“It’s tough. Think of it: You have three Republicans against one Democrat. That’s crazy,” Trump stated, highlighting the challenge of a divided field.

Wilson expressed gratitude on X, calling Trump’s support an honor and looking forward to collaboration with his administration.

Trump criticized Alaska’s ranked choice voting, referring to it as a “phony rigged deal.” The state will vote in November on whether to repeal this election system following a narrow repeal measure failure in 2024.

Dan Sullivan’s Senate Race

Trump’s visit aimed to aid Sullivan’s bid for a third Senate term. Sullivan faces Democrat Mary Peltola, who focuses on issues like rising gas prices and inflation. Alaska’s history favors Republicans in statewide elections, but current economic concerns offer Democrats an opportunity.

Trump distinguished Senator Dan Sullivan from another candidate with the same name, Dan J. Sullivan, alleging Democrats placed him to confuse voters.

Before Trump spoke, Sullivan criticized Peltola’s energy policies and committed to maintaining Senate control.

Rally Attendance and Connections to Alaska

The rally took place in Wasilla, featuring a packed venue and about 10,000 additional viewers outside. Trump emphasized his commitment to visiting Alaska, citing a family connection through his grandfather.

Before Trump addressed the crowd, Governor Mike Dunleavy praised him as Alaska’s best friend.

Pardoning Actions and Economic Projects

During his speech, Trump signed pardons for two business owners, Zachary Czubak and Patrick Fleming, convicted of tampering with emissions equipment.

Trump also promoted the Alaska LNG project and claimed Taiwan agreed to purchase 30 percent of its output. Additionally, he highlighted a proposal for a $162 million investment in high-speed internet across Alaska, awaiting a vote from the Federal Communications Commission.

Protests and Election Timeline

A protester interrupted Trump’s remarks but was removed as the crowd reacted. Trump remarked humorously about the protester afterward.

Alaska voters will cast their votes for governor and Congress on November 3, with early voting starting October 19.
