Former President Donald Trump has yet to select a successor to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Her departure has sparked curiosity about the future face of the administration.
Leavitt, aged 29, is set to appear on “Fox & Friends” for her last interview as press secretary. She plans to leave her current role to focus on her family and transition to a political group aligned with Trump, MAGA Inc.
The choice of a new press secretary is crucial for defining the end of Trump’s presidency. This role involves shaping the administration’s image and playing a part in upcoming political challenges.
With the ongoing search for a replacement, various Trump administration officials will temporarily take turns briefing the press. This was the case during Leavitt’s maternity leave earlier this year, as reported by CBS.
“During a president’s second term, post-midterms, focus shifts toward the future election,” shared Fox News host Dana Perino. “For press secretaries, it’s a balancing act of governance and campaign activities, especially with Trump’s potential involvement.”
Perino highlights Leavitt’s adept handling of both public appearances and behind-the-scenes work during her tenure.
Sean Spicer, former Trump press secretary, emphasized the role’s dual nature, stating: “The job entails both public representation of the President’s policies and managing communications on policy, personnel, and significant issues.” A trusted relationship with Trump is seen as vital for the incoming press secretary.
Alina Habba, a senior advisor in legal matters, had been an early favorite but recently dismissed the speculation. She jokingly attributed her absence from the race to “fake news” while stating interest in a potential new role.
Among other notable contenders, Anna Kelly, Leavitt’s deputy, has had media roles and remains a strong candidate. CNN’s Scott Jennings, previously considered for the position and endorsed by Trump, is a potential contender.
Senior advisor Stephen Miller, along with his wife Katie, have been mentioned online, although Miller refrained from commenting on the speculation.
Other suggested names include Matthew Boyle from Breitbart and Taylor Budowich, former deputy chief of staff.
Leavitt, with 19 months in the role, stands as Trump’s second-longest-serving press secretary, following Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ 23 months. She succeeded Sanders and was followed by Stephanie Grisham and Kayleigh McEnany.
