U.S. Faces Risk Amid Renewed Strikes on Iran Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Iran’s state media has issued a warning to the United States regarding potential risks as military tensions escalate ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The statement comes after the U.S. resumed military operations targeting Iran.

A report from Nour News, linked to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, cautioned the U.S.: “If the USA are betting on controlling oil and lowering gas prices ahead of the World Football Championship, they should understand: simultaneous military pressure and negotiations with Iran pose a major risk.” The outlet added that any erroneous decision could cast former President Trump as a symbol of an expensive mistake, one that would be recounted painfully at each World Cup event.

The United States resumed military strikes on Iran on Monday, aiming at missile launch sites and Iranian vessels attempting to plant mines. These actions were confirmed by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Captain Tim Hawkins, a CENTCOM spokesperson, explained to Newsweek, “U.S. forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces. Targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines.”

This situation remains fluid, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
