The U.S. Marshals Service has successfully completed Operation Meridian, marking the largest missing child operation in Ohio’s history. Throughout August 2026, a coordinated effort with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners resulted in the recovery of 79 children aged between 6 and 17 across the state.
Operation Meridian targeted children reported missing under various troubling circumstances, such as suspected sex trafficking, physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and other endangerment factors. The Marshals Service worked collaboratively with local police agencies, state entities, and federal counterparts to ensure comprehensive efforts in locating these children, some of whom were found as far away as Georgia.
In a statement, U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott applauded the relentless efforts of law enforcement, community, and media partners, emphasizing the significance of each child recovered. His message highlighted the impact: “Every recovered child represents a life pulled back from danger.”
