The parents of Kaylee Goncalves, a University of Idaho student, shared their ongoing struggle following the murder of their daughter. Kristi and Steve Goncalves spoke about their emotions and daily thoughts during a podcast interview with Sean Hannity.
Kristi Goncalves described her mornings, questioning if the pain would ever dissipate. She said, “The first thing every single morning I often ask myself: Is this going to be forever?” She expressed how thinking of her daughter has become a part of her daily life.
Kaylee was one of four university students killed in November 2022. Bryan Kohberger, who had pleaded guilty in July 2025 to avoid the death penalty, is now attempting to withdraw his plea. This change has added another layer of difficulty for the Goncalves family.
Steve Goncalves shared that each night, Kristi hopes for dreams where she can speak with Kaylee. “Before she goes to bed, she’s praying that Kaylee comes and visits her,” Steve explained. He noted the disappointment when these dreams do not occur.
Kohberger is seeking a withdrawal of his guilty plea, citing ineffective assistance of counsel and alleging manipulation by his attorneys. These new developments may offer prosecutors another chance to push for the death penalty.
Kristi mentioned faith in divine intervention, suggesting this could be the right time for justice. “God is looking out for us,” she said, expressing hope for a proper legal outcome.
The Goncalves family continues to navigate these legal proceedings, with the hope for closure and justice for Kaylee’s tragic death.
