University Settles Lawsuit with Ex-Professor Over Social Media Controversy

Lawyers for Tyler Robinson aim to prevent a video of Charlie Kirk’s murder from being presented at a hearing. The goal is to have prosecutors removed from the case due to a perceived conflict of interest. Meanwhile, a University of Tennessee professor has settled a lawsuit involving allegations of constitutional rights violations for $1.9 million, following attempts to discipline her over social media posts about Kirk.

The University of Tennessee System Board of Trustees has approved the settlement for former professor Tamar Shirinian. Shirinian had referred to Kirk, assassinated during his “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University, with derogatory terms on social media. These statements resulted in her placement on administrative leave.

In her post, Shirinian expressed no remorse for Kirk’s death and criticized his family. She later apologized, acknowledging her remarks as “insensitive” and “uncharacteristic.” Despite this, she was dismissed on February 11. Her termination letter, signed by UT Chancellor Donde Plowman, condemned her words as celebrating a murder and belittling the mourning of Kirk’s family.

Shirinian’s attorney, Robb Bigelow, expressed satisfaction with the resolution. He emphasized the difficulty of litigation and appreciated the efforts to resolve the matter, noting the settlement’s significance. The University of Tennessee did not provide further comment beyond its public statement.

Charlie Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was killed at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. During the event, he was shot in the neck. Before the incident, Kirk was a prominent figure, advocating conservative values and policies.

For more detailed information, Fox News Digital attempted to contact Shirinian and her attorney for additional comments.
