Vandalism at Reflecting Pool Discussed in Podcast

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum recently discussed the vandalism at the National Mall’s Reflecting Pool with Katie Miller on her podcast. The conversation highlighted the history of damage to the pool, dating back to early June.

Burgum and Miller talked about the security challenges associated with the vandalism. Miller questioned how the damage went unnoticed despite the presence of cameras. Burgum responded that initially there were few or no cameras, though additional security measures have since been implemented.

According to Burgum, President Trump’s initiative to enhance the pool faced opposition, resulting in the Reflecting Pool becoming a target for vandals. He noted that the White House took measures to prevent further incidents, including installing mobile camera stations to monitor the area.

In her podcast, Miller and Burgum also discussed how federal authorities are combating this issue with better coverage. The vandalism included notable incidents such as marking the area with “8647” and other disruptions that began after President Trump’s restoration orders.

The vandalism trend gained attention after Trump’s renovation plans, which involved painting the pool a symbolic blue. This sparked further acts of vandalism, forcing federal officials to address the situation.
