Washington Commanders Wide Receiver Terri McLaurin Out for Season

McLaurin’s Season-Ending Injury

The Washington Commanders will be without a key player as Terry McLaurin, their star wide receiver, is out for the remainder of the season. Coach Dan Quinn announced that McLaurin has a torn left patellar tendon and will undergo surgery for the injury.

“Man, he brings a lot on and off the field,” Quinn remarked about McLaurin, reflecting on his contributions from training camp through the season. McLaurin’s start in recent games was particularly noted for its significance.

Terry McLaurin was taken off the field during the Commanders’ 23-17 loss against the San Francisco 49ers. McLaurin’s injury occurred while running a route in the first quarter and led to him being carted off with an air cast on his left leg.

McLaurin’s Impact and Contract Details

Over his eight-year career with the Commanders, the 31-year-old McLaurin, a two-time Pro Bowler, has achieved 513 receptions, 7,191 yards, and 42 touchdowns. This season, he recorded 15 catches for 230 yards and a touchdown in five games.

Before the 2025 season, McLaurin signed a three-year, $96 million contract extension after a holdout. The contract runs through the 2028 season, with next year’s obligation of $23.3 million. This includes $5.35 million guaranteed for injuries if not recovered by April 1, potentially affecting his future with the Commanders.

Commanders’ Future Without McLaurin

In McLaurin’s absence, other players such as Stefon Diggs, rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams, and tight end Chig Okonkwo are expected to receive more attention from quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Currently, the Commanders stand at 1-4-1, positioned last in the NFC East. Their schedule provides them a break on Week 7 with a bye.
